Projects

During the summer of 2011, I went to India and stayed at my grandparents’ house. While I was there, we had a maid who helped in everyday chores. Her son would come with her and sometimes sit beside me and watch me play on my computer. One day, he came up to me and asked me if I could teach him how to use the computer. Surprised at his request, I realized that not only him, but millions of others just like him, had no access to computers, a basic necessity for most people in the United States. Delighted to be of help, I taught him how to use the basics of using a computer. When I started teaching him, he knew nothing of computers, however, after a week of instruction, he learned how to operate Microsoft Office and how to browse the internet. He caught on to everything extremely fast and led me to wonder how many more brilliant kids are there are like him. His passion for learning inspired me to set up my first lab and teach more people about the computer. Knowing how to operate a computer is very beneficial because India is a developing nation and, thus, many more jobs will be created which will require knowing the use of computers.
